Close Reading Strategies - Group Work:
1. Read the
article once to yourself.
2. With
your table group, read the article a second time. (Trade readers for each
paragraph. Write the name of the reader in the margin to the left).
3. Go through the article and write
the gist (main idea) of each paragraph in the margin to the right.
4. Circle
unfamiliar words – find their definition in the dictionary
5. Underline
key/important information that helps you identify the main idea and the
supporting details.
6. At the
end, in the blank space on the paper, summarize the article in 3-5 sentences.
