The mood of a verb indicates the tone or attitude with which a statement is made. The conditional mood is used when you want to make a statement about what might happen if something else happens first. The conditional mood often includes the words might, could, would, or if.

Example: “If a runaway returned, he would have to turn traitor because of his master.”
