Book Jacket Project - All Periods

Book Jacket Project – 50 points

Due:    Periods 1,2,3 – December 14
Periods 5,7,8 – December 15

Books are great! Unfortunately, sometimes their covers are pretty boring. Let’s fix this problem. Your project is to design a book jacket for a book that you have read (or are reading) that will encourage others to want to read the book also.

Instructions
You will be creating the front and back jackets of a book. You will use two pages of paper to create a book jacket that is as interesting and eye-catching as possible. You can draw it yourself or create it on the computer (but this is an at home project so we won't be going to the lab to work on it). Make people want to read your book!

Front jacket:
·         Clear title of book
·         Author’s name
·         Image that relates to the plot or characters of the book
o   Use as little negative/white space as possible
o   Colors and creativity strongly suggested
·         Your name and period number on the back

Back jacket:
·         Brief summary of the book without giving away major plot details
o   Example: “Katniss Everdeen volunteers to go in her sister’s place to the brutal Hunger Games” vs “Katniss goes to the Hunger Games and totally annihilates every other opponent with her wit and bow”
o   5-10 complete sentences
·         A review of the book
o   Written by you, in first person
§  “This book changed the way I look at wooly mammoths forever! Who knew they were such great chefs and inventors? I sure won’t forget this book any time soon. –Carolyn Harmon”
o   3-5 complete sentences
·         Pictures, colors, etc. as you see fit to make the jacket interesting

·         Your name and period number on the back
