Writing your narrative:
Begin by clearly establishing the situation...
“It was the coldest morning of the year so far, but the sky was clear and sun was shining when I stepped outside.”
Use first-person point of view...
“I was 18, and it was my first college spring break. Of course I’d chosen skiing in Montana!”
Write what you hear, see, smell, taste, and feel...
“The air froze in my nose and lungs as I inhaled deeply of the clean mountain scents. It smelled like pine and wood smoke. I could almost taste it, it was so noticeable. Because it was so cold and clear I felt like I could see for miles, like the world was flat after all.”
Elaborate on your ideas, including descriptive details
